I did it. I made a book trailer. On TikTok. And I’m still a little stunned that I pulled it off.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been dreaming about how to bring Flowers and Dreams to life in a new way—something visual, something immersive, something that captures the quiet magic of the Pacific Northwest and the emotional heart of Magnolia’s journey. I wanted to create a trailer that felt like stepping into the story itself: fog-draped trees, a mysterious attic, the hush of memory and magic. And after two days of trial, error, and a whole lot of learning curves, I finally did it.
You can watch it right here on TikTok.
Let me just say: TikTok is not for the faint of heart. I went in knowing almost nothing—just a vague idea of transitions, music, and the fact that I wanted to avoid showing people (including myself!) in the video. What I didn’t expect was how much fun I’d have once I got the hang of it. I learned how to layer clips, add text, time the visuals to music, and even sneak in a few subtle effects that echo the tone of the book.
The trailer opens with a misty forest path—because of course it does. The Pacific Northwest is practically a character in Flowers and Dreams, and I wanted that sense of place to be the first thing viewers feel. From there, we move into the attic: a space filled with forgotten heirlooms, pressed flowers, and the quiet hum of family secrets. No people, just atmosphere. Just story.
I chose music that felt both haunting and hopeful, and I let the visuals do most of the talking. The text overlays hint at the plot: a new town, a vanished father, a journal that glows with more than memory. It’s a trailer that doesn’t shout—it whispers. And I think that’s exactly right for this book.
Creating this trailer reminded me why I love storytelling in all its forms. Whether it’s words on a page or images on a screen, it’s all about connection. About inviting someone into a world you’ve built and saying, “Here. Come see.”
I’m proud of this little video. Not because it’s perfect (it’s not), but because it’s mine. I made it. I learned something new. And I found a fresh way to share Flowers and Dreams with the world.
If you’re curious, inspired, or just want to see what a book trailer made by a slightly bewildered but very determined author looks like, take a peek. And if you love it, feel free to share it. Every view, every comment, every bit of support means the world.
Here’s to trying new things. Here’s to stories that bloom.
